I've had almost two weeks to digest my recent roadtrip to New York City via Chicago. The big city life, while not without its perks, is not one I would choose. There was no solace for me there. I find solace chiefly in solitude and silence, neither of which could be found on Manhattan Island. Even Central Park's promise of tranquility was ill-kept. I could never find peace in a valley surrounded by mountains of concrete, brick, and glass. The city is harsh and unforgiving, and its occupants must become thus to survive. Although I grew used to it during my time there, I could never abide in such conditions. I could not live in a place where weakness is devoured before it may be overcome.
